you probably read about our musing about the japanese fuzz surfpop band, friends, many times.
well….some updates on them….they just changed their name to teen runnings!
have no fear.. the beach boys wall of fuzz pop is still there!
we are sooo stoked to learn that one of our favourite bands of 2011, craft spells, is coming to town for Mosiac Music Festival on 10 Mar 2012.
the band’s debut album, idle labor, is namechecked in many music blogs’ top ten album of 2011.
enuff of talk and here are the proofs!
her label describes her best – “Amanda Mair bring ideas of a what a young, Swedish Dusty Springfield produced by Kate Bush might have sounded like if she arrived today. With melodies lit by sunlight and a voice that goes straight to the heart this is nothing less than pure magic.”
she’s discovered by labrador records when only 15 year old (now 16) from an island outside Stockholm and she had no bandcamp/myspace page, hadn’t made any live shows or sent any demos to labels or press.
we think she’s going to be a force to reckon with shortly!
quick!!! quick!!! we’re telling you to download the new album from The Notes album!!! 10 tracks of lovelorn fuzzy dreampop all possible thanks to the awesome guys at bleeding gold records.
after the recent release of the tearjerker drew barrymore directed video of our deal, best coast is back with a new song. “how they want me to be” is a stripped down emotional song again with bethany’s vocals shining on..perfect!
ten years on now and people still can’t get over the avalanches‘ debut album, since i left you. its legacy has continued to grow exponentially. Since I Left You is a record that came seemingly out of nowhere and went on to become not only one of the most influential records of the last decade, but in recent polls conducted by both Pitchfork Media and Australian radio station triple j, as one of the greatest and most beloved albums of all time.
the kind folks at modular people decide to blow the dust off it and re-issue it for its 10th (still sound like we just heard it today!) anniversary which will feature the original classic album accompanied by a bonus disc of material including remixes from the original album campaign, new reworks from the likes of El Guincho, MF Doom, Canyons, Black Dice, Jackson and his Computer Band, some exquisite Avalanches remixes of other artists, plus unreleased early b-sides, demo tracks and other such rarities.
here’s the stereolab remix of the title track.
